Stained Glass Windows

Last night was probably the best Gathering Concert we’ve had to date. It’s funny how things work, I was talking with the staff at Calvary (where I lead worship) just last week about cutting back on how many of these concert we do every year ( we have them every quarter). I was wrong, we need to have more of them, not less. Something about last night just seemed right. Shawn Gendall gave a little mini-message that was great, we focused on John 16:33, specifically on how Christ has overcome the world. Check it out: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

We set up some old stained glass windows all over the stage, and then at one point in the night Shawn had everyone in the room write some thoughts on a piece of colored paper and tape them to a big empty window set up at the front of the stage. We all wrote things that we were handing over to the Lord, things that we needed God’s help in “overcoming”. The result was a huge, colorful collage of thoughts that at one time had “stained” our hearts, but were now overcome by His grace. We took off into a new song my Tracey wrote called “You Are The Light”, and as we played, a light shined through the newly crafted “stained Glass”. It was beautiful. It’s amazing how God can take our lives, full of sin, stained and damaged, and shine his light through them to make something beautiful.

If you’re ever in LA on one of the evenings we’re having a Gathering Concert, you’ve got to join us, they just keep getting better and better.
